Which jobs and occupations may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits in Illinois?
On April 13, 2020, the IWCC ordered that all first responders and frontline workers diagnosed with COVID-19 virus will be assumed to have contracted the illness while working on the job until proven otherwise.
This order will apply to Illinois workers employed in the following industries:
- Law enforcement
- Firefighters
- EMTs and paramedics
- All individuals employed and considered as first responders
- Health care providers
- Correction officers
Additionally, this order also applies to any Illinois workers in the following fields and industries:
- Stores that sell groceries, medicine, food, beverage, cannabis, and agriculture products
- Organizations that provide charitable and social services
- Gas stations and businesses needed for transportation
- Financial institutions
- Hardware and supplies stores
- Critical trades
- Mail, post, shipping, logistics, delivery, and pick-up services
- Educational institutions
- Laundry services
- Restaurants for delivery and takeout off-premises
- Supplies to work from home
- Supplies for essential businesses and operations
- Transportation
- Home-based care and services
- Residential facilities and shelters
- Professional services
- Daycare centers for employees exempted by executive order
- Manufacture, distribution, and supply chain for critical products and industries
- Critical labor union functions
- Hotels and motels
- Funeral services
